Gianni Schicchi Puccini gyda chyngerdd Eidalaidd

Wednesday, 18th November, 2026, 7:30pm. Doors at 7:00

St. Andrew’s Church, Presteigne

Mid Wales Opera presents a full evening of Italian opera, opening with Puccini’s brilliant, one-act comedy Gianni Schicchi, one of the greatest and most sublime of all Italian comic operas.

The greedy relatives of the dead Buoso Donati mourn his passing, though in truth, they’re far more interested in the contents of his will. On learning that they have all inherited nothing, Lauretta, whose engagement to Donati’s nephew Rinuccio is now in jeopardy, persuades her father, the wily Gianni Schicchi, to help them. But Schicchi has his own ingenious solution to the problem and as his plans come to fruition all hell breaks loose amongst the relatives…

Brimming with energy, with a fast-moving plot full of twists, turns and madcap ensembles, Puccini’s gloriously melodic score includes one of his best-loved arias “O mio babbino caro”. This jewel of a piece is followed by a second half feast of popular Italian music presented by MWO’s 15-strong company of singers and musicians.

Mae Opera Canolbarth Cymru yn cyflwyno noson lawn o opera Eidalaidd, gan agor gyda chomedi un act wych Puccini Gianni Schicchi, un o'r operâu comig Eidalaidd gorau a harddaf.

Mae perthnasau barus Buoso Donati yn galaru ei farwolaeth, ond mewn gwirionedd, mae ganddynt lawer mwy o ddiddordeb yng nghynnwys ei ewyllys. Wrth ddod i wybod nad ydynt wedi etifeddu dim, mae Lauretta, y mae ei dyweddiad â nai Donati, Rinuccio bellach yn y fantol, yn perswadio ei thad, Gianni Schicchi gyfrwys, i'w helpu. Ond mae gan Schicchi ei ateb dyfeisgar ei hun i'r broblem ac wrth i'w gynlluniau gael eu gwireddu aiff popeth i'r gwellt rhwng y perthnasau...

Yn llawn egni, gyda phlot sy'n troi a throelli'n gyflym ac ensemblau penboeth, mae sgôr felodig fawreddog Puccini yn cynnwys un o'i ariâu mwyaf poblogaidd “O mio babbino caro”. Dilynir y perl hwn o ddarn gan wledd yn yr ail hanner o gerddoriaeth Eidalaidd boblogaidd a gyflwynir gan griw o 15 o gantorion ac offerynnwyr OCC.
