MBA Sunday Session: Rhiannon Hooson

Rhiannon Hooson

The Old Year and the New

Sunday, 6th December, 2026, 3:30pm. Doors at 3:00pm

The Assembly Rooms, Presteigne

As the wheel of the year turns towards its dark point and the winter solstice, Rhiannon Hooson leads us from the Celtic Old Year and into the New. Featuring readings from a new cycle of poems which chart a course through the months of the year, the talk will explore the process of writing and the ways in which close observation can lead to connection with the natural world.

Rhiannon Hooson has won major awards for her work, including an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors, and her first book, The Other City, was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year award.  She has been featured in The Guardian, Magma and Poetry Wales and read her work at literature festivals across the UK and in Europe. In the last few years, she has been the winner of the First Chapter prize, writer in residence at the Hay Festival, and the judge of the PENfro festival poetry competition. Her latest book is Goliat, published by Seren Books.
